INTRODUCTION

This surah was revealed in Medina between the 5 and 7 year of Hijra. The surah deals with multiple problems arose among the wives of the Holy Prophet (saw), blames upon our Beloved Prophet (saw) and the followers and especially the victory of Islam.

Allah promised that Islam would continue to make progress and gather strength till the whole Arabia would accept the message and idolatry would disappear from the country. And it was stated also that the Muslims would live a comfortable life and material prosperity. The disbelievers were always longing about the complete destruction of Islam.

So the present surah stated the rise and progress of Islam. Moreover, the surah deals with the abolition of deep-rooted customs of the Arabs, for e.g., the adoption of another’s person son as one’s own. It deals with the strong spiritual relationship between Hazrat Mohammad (saw) and the Muslim. Our Beloved Aka (saw) stood very close and supportive to his followers and his wives are their spiritual mothers, the Ummoul-Muminaat.

Surah Al Ahzaab gives a detailed description of the Battle of Trench in Medina which was the fiercest encounter in which the Muslims had so far been engaged. The whole of Arabia had risen like one man against the Muslims. Around 20,000 well-equipped people were against about 1200 poor-equipped Muslims. Men, women and children, around 3000 were asked to dig the Trench, therefore practically everybody was tired and exhausted but Allah ((swt)) sent His favours and blessings where the powerful enemy was dispersed and scattered. Allah spread a fright in their heart. Among the followers, the Holy Prophet (saw) had to face the hypocrites and the weak in faith. These hypocrites professed that they are true followers, but when in Medina the Holy Prophet (saw) asked them to come forward to fight against the enemies, a mighty force, they asked to be excused from fighting on the side of the Muslims on very lame excuses. They broke their plighted word, i.e, their Bai’at, their pledge or oath of allegiance. After the Battle of Trench, the booty fell into the hands of the Muslims. The Muslims who were economically very poor and persecuted had grown into a rich powerful and prosperous state. So Muslims started to live a comfortable life, material wealth brings worldly mindedness - So this chapter deals with the wives of the Prophet, who desired an increase in their wealth from their husband, Hazrat Mohammad (saw). This caused a lot of trouble to him. He got a revelation concerning his wives. So they were asked to make a choice between a life of comfort and ease and a simple even austere life facing hardships, hardwork, and as helpers to the Holy Prophet (saw). This verse made them realise their mistakes, so they lost no time in making up their minds. They preferred Allah and His prophet. The Ummoul-Muminaat were particularly chosen to set example of piety, righteousness and so on. Moreover they had to preserve the dignity of the Holy Prophet (saw) and the teachings of the commandments of Allah. A special verse refers to Zainab’s marriage with Zaid, the failure of this marriage and Zainab’s marriage with Hazrat Mohammad (saw) which served a double purpose. Zainab, being his cousin and a full-blooded Arab lady with an exalted social position married a slave. This breaks class distinction and divisions which the Arabian society had suffered.

According to Islam all men were free and equal in the sight of Allah. Next, the surah abolished the custom of adoption. It is known that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) had no real sons. Two were born and died soon after, so he took Zaid, a freed slave, as his real son. He married him with Zainab, his own cousin. This is God- will as He is the only One who knows the reason why Hazrat Mohammad (saw) should be Abtar (no male issue). This does not mean that he would be issueless, since he was the spiritual father of the whole mankind. According to my own opinion, the reason of being issueless is that surely, he is the one who would bring into being a community of the most righteous and the most loyal spiritual sons as prophethood would continue in his Ummah.

Further, the surah says that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is the spiritual father of the faithful while his wives spiritual mothers, mothers of the faithful. So marriage with them after his death is a grievous sin. The Holy Prophet (saw) himself was commanded not to divorce anyone of his existing wives, nor to add to their number. The Mothers of the faithful were commanded about their dressing and observing certain rules so as to preserve the dignity of Islam. This applies also to all believing women of the community.

Another important point to note from this surah is the very high destiny of man, his responsibilities as the crown of God’s whole creation. He is being endowed with great powers and capabilities over all living creatures. Man is the one who can imbibe and reflect in his person the divine attributes.

In this surah, Allah (swt) raised His prophet (saw) to such a status that when one hears or says, mentions his name, one should immediately say “Sallallaho alayhé Wassallam” (saw). He is the only prophet who acquired this title since the creation of the universe till the day of Judgement. This is a brief account of the introduction of this surah. Now I will make my best to give brief explanations on each verse which is composed of 9 Ruku and 75 verses.

RUKU 1

1) O thou prophet, seek protection in Allah, and follow not the wishes of the disbelievers and the hypocrites verily, Allah is all-knowing, wise

“Yaa annabiyo”: In this verse, Allah (swt) addresses Hazrat Mohammad (saw) as Nabi whereas the other prophets are being called by their names. For e.g.: Moses, Jesus, Elias... Allah gives him the title of Nabi officially. This verse is a solid argument to prove that the title of Nabi was being given to him by Allah.

As all human beings, Hazrat Mohammad (saw) was simple, soft-heartened, patient and a good listener. He used to listen to all people around him, may he be a disbeliever or a believer. The disbelievers and the hypocrites made their level best to prevent him to perform his duty assigned by Allah and to blacken his face. As no one knows the heart of his mates, only Allah knows. So Allah informs him to be very cautious, the hypocrites are usually people who appear to be good, nice, charming, pretend to believe in all revelations, promise to work with the prophet and the true believers, pretend to support the prophet of Allah. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) could not know these people, so Allah informed him not to go according to their wishes until Allah instructs him.

This verse shows that a prophet should act according to Allah’s instruction and not to man, but he should listen to their opinions, grievances, views so that he can pray to Allah to ask for the final decision.

2) And follow that which is revealed to thee from thy lord. Verily, Allah is well-aware of what you do.

Allah asks Hazrat Mohammad (saw) to follow only the commandments of Allah and not the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Only Allah is All-Aware, Allah knows the innermost secret of one’s heart. This shows also that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is only a man like other man. He is not God; he does not possess the power of God. He is only a messenger, therefore he acts only when instruction of Allah descends upon him through revelation.

3) And put thy trust in Allah, and Allah is sufficient as a guardian.

Allah encourages him to put his total confidence in Him as He is All-Aware. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) does not have to hesitate to rely upon the Ever-Living.

Normally when persecution insists upon somebody, he gets the feeling that no body cares for him even your closest-loved ones. One may feel depressed and fed up with life. This is why Allah revealed this verse to him as He knows how His beloved prophet is being cursed and persecuted by everybody for His cause. Allah knows his feelings. So Allah told him and all the believers to trust Allah only. Allah is with those who bear patience and faithful.

4) Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his breast, nor has He made those of your wives from whom you keep away by calling them mothers, your mothers in fact, nor has He made those whom you adopt as sons, your sons in fact. These are merely the words of your mouth, but Allah declares the truth, and He guides to the right path.

Allah has not made two hearts in any man’s breast. The word “heart” has a lot of meaning. For instance:

1) It is the most important organ of the body that is responsible for the distribution of blood to all parts of the body including the brain which is the main coordinator of all nerves and organs of the body. Without the heart, the brain is useless. So how can we have two captains in a ship? Two hearts in the body would cause confusion and discord.

2) The heart is also the seat of emotions and feelings e.g. sentiment, love, hatred, jealousy, doubts, hypocrisy and so on.

In fact, all qualities or characteristics of a human being arise from his heart. As this saying states:

“If there is a diamond in the heart, it shines on the faces” - That’s why Allah precise that He has created only one heart in any man’s body. Otherwise there would be a clash.

... Among the Arabs, it was a tradition, a custom to leave their wives at any time they feel like as women had no dignity and honour. Ladies were considered as inferior personalities. When they wanted to divorce their wives, they call them by “mother”. So Allah revealed this verse and draws a red line to this type of divorce. It is forbidden to call them as their mothers. Allah upgraded the real value of a mother.

A mother is somebody very special who cannot be replaced by anybody. At the same time, Allah revalued the wife’s dignity and status both at home and in a society. A man cannot leave his wife and deprive her of her conjugal rights and yet she remains tied to him. Without the right of marrying another man very often, husband came back home drunk and angry, so they took this kind of decision to abuse them and they did whatever they felt like.

The Arabs were savage and women had no value in their eyes. Moreover, the verse is concerned with another deep-rooted custom of the Arabs about the adoption of sons. Allah does not lay any burden on anybody when he adopts a child as his own. An adopt child cannot be like his biological son. Allah breaks this custom as the blood relationships and adoption was in peril and foolish. So, to conclude, a wife cannot be replaced by a mother and an adopted child cannot be considered as a real son.

Allah says that these words are mere words that come from the mouth. People say whatever that comes out without realising the consequences afterwards. Words of mouth cannot change the state of mind. Allah speaks the truth and He guides to the real path.

5) Call them after their fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. But if you know not their fathers, then they are your brothers in faith and your friends. And there is no blame on you in respect of any mistake you may unintentionally make in this matter, but you will be called to account for that which your hearts purpose. And Allah is Most-Forgiving, Ever- Merciful.

This verse treats furthermore with the adopted child; Allah says to call them by their father’s name. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. But if the father is unknown, then he should be considered as his brother in faith or a friend, but if ever a mistake has been done unintentionally in this matter, one has to account for that which one’s heart purpose. Allah knows the heart more than anyone in this world. How he treats his adopted child, with love and affection, no doubt, Allah loves this kind of person; the rest lies in the hands of Allah. Allah is Most Forgiving and Most Merciful.

6) The prophet is nearer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are as mothers to them. And blood relations are nearer to one another according to the Book of Allah, than other believers from among the helpers and the emigrants except that you show kindness to your friends. This also is written down in the Book.

This verse treats the Holy Prophet (saw) as the “father of the faithful” and his wives as “mothers of the faithful”. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is the closest person to the believers. He is the one who had to console the believers as they also were atrociously persecuted by their full-blooded relatives when they had embraced Islam, i.e. believing in only one God and revelation coming through Allah’s chosen one, Hazrat Mohammad (saw). The purpose of this verse is also to abolish the idea that only Muslims would inherit the property of somebody. Allah emphasizes that blood relationship should be considered in heritance of properties, but the Muslims were expected to treat one another as true brothers in Islam.

7) And call to mind when We took from the prophets their covenant, and from thee, and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, son of Mary, and We, indeed, took from them a solemn covenant.

The prophets Moses, Jesus, Abraham and Noah are specially mentioned in this verse. Noah was the first-law bearing prophet. All the teachings of the other prophets are being renewed in the Holy Quran brought by Hazrat Mohammad (saw). Jesus was the last of the Israelite prophets.

This verse reminds people of their pact they made on the hands of the prophets - “Bai’at”. When “bai’at” is taken from the prophet’s hands, this means “at the hand of Allah” as he is the representative of Allah. Allah cannot present Himself in front of human beings. So He sends His representative and manifests Himself through him. Breaking a “bai’at” means breaking all ties with Allah, disobeying a commandment of the Holy Quran is disobeying all others. Rejecting a prophet of Allah is rejecting all the other prophets who came before.

8) That Allah may question the truthful about their truthfulness. And for the disbelievers He has prepared a painful punishment.

Those who remain steadfast with their oath of allegiance are the most favoured and blessed ones but those who break the covenant – (the disbelievers and the hypocrites) Allah has prepared a painful punishment for them.

RUKU 2

9) O ye who believe, remember the favour of Allah to you when there came against you hosts, and we sent against them a wind and hosts that you saw not and Allah sees what you do.

This verse deals with the Battle of Trench where the small quantity of Muslims (around 1200) came out victorious over a large army of the Kaafirs (around 20,000). Allah made the small army appear to be numerous and stronger as He sent down His angels who frightened the enemy’s side. Allah manifested His anger by a violent wind. This Battle was the fiercest one in which the Muslims had been so far engaged. The whole Arabia rose like one man against Islam. But they ignore that Allah is the Most Powerful God “Laa Ghalibah Illallah”. Allah is always with His prophets and the “Ibaadur Rahman”. Allah is always victorious. So the disbelievers were never again to march against the Muslims and Islam emerged stronger from this severe ordeal.

10) When they came upon you from above you, and from below you, and when your eyes became distracted, and your hearts reached up to your throats, and you thought diverse thoughts about Allah.

This verse gives a brief description (account) on the ferocity of the Battle. The disbelievers burst upon the Muslims from all directions - from the highlands to the plains - but Allah was with the Muslims. Despite their large number, Allah made them afraid as they appeared to see large numbers of Muslims in front of them. So their eyes were distracted and their hearts bumped with fear and fright. The hypocrites had bad thoughts about Allah.

11) Then were the believers sorely tried, and they were shaken with a violent shaking.

The believers also were shaken and were deeply improved. But the true ones remained united like one brotherhood and they kept their pact intact with Allah and His prophet.

12) And call to mind when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease said: “Allah and His messenger promised us only delusion”;

The hypocrites cried out that Allah and His messenger put them in great trouble, in despair and they were defeated. “call to mind”: these wordings are use for the whole humanity to remember or bear in mind how hypocrites are. They seemed to be faithful to Allah and His prophet but in fact there were diseases of jealousy, hatred, the power to control over all administrative duties, arrogance and so on in their hearts.

13) And when a party of them said, “O people of Yathrib, you can possibly make no stand against the enemy, therefore turn back, and a section of them even asked leave of the prophet, saying, “ our houses are exposed”, whereas they were not exposed. They only sought to flee.

“O people of Yathrib” signifies the people of Medina. There were many people who wanted to flee away from the Battle of Trench pretending that their houses were exposed. They had to look after their wives and children. But infact, these were pretences, they only sought to flee. “turn back” means they wanted to return to their old faith. They rejected Islam.

14) If the enemy were to enter the town from its environs, and then they were asked to join in the disturbance against the Muslims, they would certainly have done so, and would not have tarried in their houses save a little.

If the enemy were enter the town (Medina) from other direction and ask them to join in the disturbance against the Muslims they would not hesitate to do so.

15) And truly they had already covenanted with Allah that they would not turn their backs. And a covenant with Allah will have to be answered for.

The covenant refers to a treaty which the Jews of Medina had with the Holy Prophet (saw) that they would fight on his side against any enemy who invaded Medina. And moreover they are forbidden to cooperate with other hostile parties to fight against the Holy Prophet (saw). This verse lays stress upon them to remind them of not breaking the covenant, as a covenant with Allah is sacred and has to be answered for. The verse means also to those who have made their pledges with Allah on the hands of Hazrat Mohammad (saw) and to all prophets who will come after him in his Ummah, respective prophets or messiahs coming in their time till the day of judgement.

16) Say, “flight shall not avail you if you flee from death or slaughter, and even then you will not be allowed to enjoy yourselves but little.”

Allah told them that there is no benefit in escaping from fighting for the cause of Allah, be it a natural death or died in a Battle as a martyr for the cause of Allah to propagate the unicity of Allah. Allah warns all the people about the result afterwards, those who had succeeded in running away, Allah will not spare them and they would enjoy this freedom temporarily.

17) Say, “who is it that can save you from Allah. If it be His wish to do you harm, or can deprive you of it, if it be His wish to show you mercy? And they will not find for themselves any friends nor helper other than Allah.

Allah says: “who can protect you from the harm or punishment if Allah wishes to sever? Or who can prevent the favours and blessings of Allah showering upon you if Allah wishes. No man in the power of man can do so. Allah does whatever He feels like; He does not have to take permission from anybody when He wants to raise His prophets or messengers. People can go against His messengers but He will always be his Protector and Guardian. Allah says that no one can fly to seek refuge from His punishment or manipulating plots against His chosen ones.

18) Verily, Allah knows well those among you who hinder others from fighting and those who say to their brethren, “come and be with us”, and they themselves come not to the fight but little.

Allah is “Alif-Laam-Meem”, The All Knowing. He knows perfectly well who is deviating people from the right path, forbidding others to come to fight for the cause of Islam. This had happened in all times when Allah raises His chosen ones. Among the followers, there were the hypocrites who work “d’arrache-pied” (very hard) for the disbelievers, they organise private meetings at night or giving them copies of true extracts of the internal matters of the community. Finally when they were discovered and when they could not adapt themselves in the manifestation of Allah, they cause a lot of trouble to the prophet and to the followers.

19) Being niggardly of their help to you. But when danger comes, thou seest them looking towards thee, their eyes rolling like one who is fainting at the approach of death. But when the fear had passed away, they assail you with sharp tongues, being niggardly of any good coming to your way. Allah has rendered their works null and void. And that is easy for Allah.

Moreover, they are not willing to contribute financially to help for the propagation of Islam or to help the poor. If they happen to give something as alms they would boast themselves and would tell everybody that they are the ones who have raised the funds enormously. The Jamaat would not have reached at its peak without these arrogant people. Allah said that when fright and fear reached to their throat, they looked at the prophet as if they wanted to faint, to lose consciousness. The hypocrites are very miser, they hardly want to give help to the Muslims.

Instead, they are very greedy of getting money or other wealth, and they taunt the Muslims. When their greed has not been satisfied, Allah says that all their work offered are null and void (are of no importance, of no significance in the eyes of Allah). This is easy for Allah.

20) They still hope that the confederates may not have gone away, and if the confederates should come again, they would wish to be among the nomad Arabs in the desert, asking for news about you. And if they were among you, they would fight but little.

The hypocrites prefer to stay with the nomad Arabs in the desert rather than to stay with the prophet of Allah (saw). They would ask news about the Muslims. They wanted to know the move about of the Muslims so that they would increase their mischief and plots, and would render their lives more miserable. If happen, they want to stay in the company of the Muslims they would do nothing or “pretend” to fight for the cause of Allah.

From the 12 to 20 verses, Allah gives the description of a hypocrite’s state of mind, particularly when he faces danger. The hypocrite is coward and always a defeatist. He is a liar and not sincere with his pledges which he “solemnly” made. He is treacherous, disloyal and perfidious. He is a niggardly and greedy miser.

RUKU 3

21) Verily, you have in the prophet of Allah, an excellent model, for him who hopes to meet Allah and the last day and who remembers Allah much.

This verse bears all its importance proving that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is verily an excellent model, for him who hopes to meet Allah and the last day and who remembers Allah much.

Briefly, the wordings “an excellent model” can be explained as thus. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is being graced with these excellent words when he faced the bitterest Battle, (Battle of Trench) with much vigour and strength. He succeeded to overcome that supreme test with beautifully moral stature and prestige.

Infact, he was at his best both in time of danger when all around is dark and in the Hour of success and victory, when his enemies lie prostrate at his feet. The Holy Prophet (saw) was as great and noble in time of distress as well as he was in the Hour of success. He fought all Battles with a flood of light, be it Battle of Badr, Uhud, Hunain etc… and the fall of Mecca.

Peril and danger did not discourage him nor victory and success spoil him. He never showed arrogance or extravagance. He is never afraid to proclaim himself as the prophet of Allah and Allah is the Unique One. He was “Siddique”; he always spoke the truth in whatever the situation he faced. When he won victory over the enemies, he showed humility and magnanimity to them. The prophet (saw) was humanity’s noblest specimen and a perfect model in beauty and beneficence. He is an excellent exemplar for men to copy and follow. He started life as an orphan and ended it by being the arbiter of the destinies of a whole nation, a universal prophet.

At the threshold of youth, he was a perfect example of moral virtue, righteousness and sobriety.

In the middle- age he won the title of “Al-Amin” (the trusty and truthful). As a business man he proved himself to be most honest and scrupulous. He married ladies much older and much younger than himself and all of them swore to be faithful, loveable and live able to him. As a father he was the most affectionate and as a friend he was most loyal and considerate. As a prophet of Allah, he succeeded in changing the most barbarous Arabs to a fully-devoted community and he established Islam, of course, under the commandments and instructions of Allah. He bore all the persecutions, exile, blames etc. with the dignity and prestige. He fought as a soldier and commanded armies. He did face defeat - (Battle of uhud) - and won victories. He legislated and decided cases. He was a statesman, a teacher and a leader of men.

He stood alone, facing danger and plots without a standing army, without a bodyguard. He lived a simple life with his wives without fixed revenue. He is the king of all prophets without a palace.

He did his household work with his own hands. He would sleep on leather mat, and his meals were consisted, mainly of dates, stale barley-bread and water. After hard days’ work, at night he would stand for long Hours in prayers and supplication till his feet got swollen. He was the prophet who manifested practically all the Divine Attributes.

He is “Raouf”; very affectionate, Rahim, Kareem and so on ...

He even showed great interest in animals. He never allowed someone to be cruel towards animals. Once he got angry when someone took away the eggs of a bird – another time about a she-camel – he was very furious and angry. He was the best lawyer without a court and a judge – He deals with the matters with justice and equity.

Briefly, we can say that the Holy Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (saw) is the chief of all the prophets; praying with the utmost humility and extreme agony for his Ummah.

22) And when the believers saw the confederates, they said “This is what Allah and His messenger promised us; and Allah and His prophet spoke the truth.” And it only added to their faith and submission.

- What has Allah and His messenger promised the believers?

- What revelation came from the mouth of the Holy Prophet (saw) which now the believers cried out the truth?

Hazrat Muhammad (saw) received a revelation and prophesized that the confederates will be routed and shall their turn backs in flight. After the Battle of Badr, after hard beating and crushing defeat, the Meccans were very angry and hostile to the Muslims. So they organised together with other tribes heavy plots to finish them (Islam). This situation grieved the Holy Prophet (saw) who went in a tent to pray to Allah fervently, in utmost humility and extreme agony. Afterwards he came out with the revelation mentioned above.

This verse describes the happiness and their state of heart when they had witnessed the realisation of the prophecy made by the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (saw). This added to their faith and submission. If ever some of them doubted revelations, they immediately reconsolidated their faith by saying, “Allah and His prophet spoke the truth.”

23) Among the believers are men who have been true to the covenant they had made with Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their vow, and there are others who wait, and they have not changed in the least.

“Among the believers are men who have been true to the covenant they had made with Allah.”

This part of the verse shows the great fidelity, sincerity and steadfastness in the faith of the Holy Prophet’s disciples. Allah is very happy with them as they were the companions who fulfilled the role assigned to them. This verse also confirms that Hazrat Muhammad (saw) is the Father of the Faithful, the best leader, the Preserver of Islam, till the Day of Judgment.

“Some of them have fulfilled their vow, and there are others who wait, and they have not changed in the least”

This part shows us that in all time of prophethood there was, there is, there will be people among the believers who hesitate, or have doubts about the messages of Allah. There are always some who will scrutinize the revelations coming from Allah as we say in creole “passe dans laboratoire.” (a complete analysis) before they would accept the messenger as a true one.

24) That Allah may reward the truthful for their truth, and punish the hypocrites if He so please, or turn to them in mercy. Verily, Allah is most Forgiving, Merciful.

Allah says that He is the only One, the sole One who will reward the truthful, the most sincere and the most humble believer and He is the only One who will inflict them with punishment especially the hypocrites or if they repent sincerely, He is the only One who will turn to them in mercy – Verily Allah is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful.

Allah has given no one in this universe, the license of faith, neither the angels nor His prophets, nor even the chief of all prophets. Allah is the only One who grants forgiveness and mercy or give Imaan (Faith).

25) And Allah turned back the disbelievers in their rage, they gained no good. And Allah sufficed the believers in their fight. Allah is Powerful, Mighty.

Allah rendered vain the efforts of the enemies when they rose against the prophet (saw). So they failed in their attacks with anger and rage. They went back to their homes, never being in a position again to attack the Muslims. The Battle of Trench marked a turning point in the history of Islam. The Muslims who were in minority, weak, continuously harassed and harried, persecuted, desperate and lonely suddenly became a mighty force in Arabia. So will, INSHA-ALLAH all those that Allah and His prophet in all time. This demonstrates that Allah is sufficient for the believers in their fight. Allah is the Most Powerful – Mighty.

26) And He brought those of the people of the Book who had aided them down from their fortresses, and cast terror into their Hearts. Some you slew, and some you took captive.

The people of the Book are the Jews and Christians. They were defeated as Allah has casted terror into their hearts. Many died and many were taken as captives and prisoners. The Treaty which they made solemnly with the Holy Prophet (saw) to protect the Muslims of Medina against any hostile attacks was violated. That’s why the Holy Prophet (saw) marched against them and caught hold of them firmly and took high decisions upon them. Hazrat Muhammad (saw) showed his rudeness and firmness towards enemies when they were applicable. So do all prophets before and after his coming. Nowadays, in this era people of other Jamaats state that the prophet of Allah, the Muhy-uddin of this era is a rude, heartless person. He is rude when He is sending rude letters to their “leaders” or “idols” – so did Hazrat Muhammad (saw) as stated in verse 26 of this surah.

27) And He made you inherit their land and their houses and their wealth, and also a land on which you have not yet set foot. And Allah has power over all things.

Allah gave the Muslims, in inheritance their lands and their houses and their wealth and also a land which Hazrat Muhammad (saw) has never set his feet - Allah has power over all things. The last part of the verse deals with the future inheritance of other lands and empires which will be conquered by Islam. This means also that after Hazrat Muhammad (saw)’s demise, other prophets will come to continue his fight for the Unicity of Allah and the establishment of Islam throughout the four comers of the world. And also to reunite all the Muslims and other communities under one roof the “Ummat-é-Wahida” i.e, “La-Ilaha Illallah”

RUKU 4

28) O prophet! Say to thy wives, if you desire the life of this world and its adornment, come then, I will provide for you and send you away in a handsome manner.

Revelation descends upon Allah’s beloved prophet (saw) when the latter was crushed with the weight of problems he was facing with his wives. The Ummoul-Momenat were supposed to set good example to other believers, to serve as models in society but once, it happened that they all gathered to ask for an increment in their expenses. This troubled the Holy Prophet (saw) enormously as he noticed that his wives casted away the sacrifice of materials luxuries and easy living. So this verse refers to the Ummoul-Momenat to make a choice between comfortable life and the Holy Prophet’s companionship as it demanded this sacrifice. By the way this does not mean that the wives of the prophet were forbidden to enjoy the use of money and the amenities of life. But the Holy Prophet (saw) wanted everything to be used at the right time, with the right quantity and wanted to show people humility and simplicity. The other facet of the verse (in the last part) Allah instructs the Holy Prophet (saw) of how to send divorce to his wives if ever they preferred the life of this world and its adornment. Divorce is not given in fits of anger or in an abnormal state of the mind. Allah asks him to send them away in a handsome manner, gently, peacefully and to take great care when departed. Though divorce is hateful in the sight of Allah, but here, preference should be given to Allah and His messenger.

29) “But if you desire Allah and his messenger and the home of the hereafter, then, truly, Allah has prepared for those of you, who do good, a great reward.

Allah is very Gracious and Merciful. After having given instructions to the Holy Prophet (saw), to give the choice to his wives and the latter chose Allah and His prophet and the home of the hereafter. He immediately revealed this verse promising them (the Ummoul-Momenaat) a great reward.

30) O wives of the prophet! If any of you be guilty of manifestly dishonourable conduct, the punishment will be doubled for her. And that is easy for Allah.

Allah is addressing to the wives of the Holy Prophet (saw), the Ummoul-Momenaat, if ever they are misbehaving or committing mistakes hateful in the sight of Allah or in  dishonourable conduct i.e. behaviour which will dishonour the prophet of Allah, where the enemies could easily criticize him. Allah says that their punishment would be doubled than that of ordinary believers. The Ummul Momenaat are the mothers of the faithful. They are the wives of the Holy Prophet (saw) whose example was bound to be followed by other women. So if they would set bad example, Allah warns them that their punishment would be more atrocious than the other believing women.

31)  But whoever of you is obedient to Allah and His messenger and does good works, We shall give her, her reward twice over, and We have prepared for her an honourable provision.

On the other hand, if they are the best example of women to be followed, to be copied, their reward would also be doubled provided they were fully devoted, to Allah and His Rassool, showing obedience to the commandments of Allah, do good works, righteous, pious, loyal to the prophet and to all believers.

32) O wives of the prophet! You are not like other women if you are righteous. So be not soft in speech, lest he, in whose heart is a disease, should feel tempted, and speak decent words.

33) And stay in your with dignity, and display not your beauty like the displaying of the former days of ignorance, and observe Prayer, and pay the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Surely, Allah desires to remove from you all uncleanness, O Members of the Household, and purify you completely.

These verses are very strict for the Ummoul-Momenaat. Furthermore, Allah reminds them to be righteous as they are not like ordinary women. Here, they are asked to maintain the dignity of their very exalted position and to behave themselves properly when addressing to the members of the opposite sex (the male). They should not have to speak softly and agreeably to them; instead they should speak with firmness and be short with them. All Muslims women are included in this injunction. Why does Allah ask the faithful women and the wives of the prophet to do so? Because, they ignore completely what is in the heart of the opposite sex. Some may have a disease of desiring them, sex attraction, speaking lovingly and softly may attract him, thus leading to adultery. They are also commanded to speak decent words to him. Nowadays we can see that no more respect exists between men and women. Women also behave themselves in an indecent way. Pardah has been discarded. Distinction is difficult between a male and female. Women are wearing trousers and tops just like men and men are wearing bangles, earrings, piercing and wear tights like women. So that’s the main reason why this verse advises women to be at home but this does not mean that they should remain within the four walls, always away from people and society? No, this is not the idea. Women enjoy the same right as men but their movement should be supervised and protected as stated in the verse. Men normally have bad intentions on women, a disease in their heart.

She may go out as many times as she feels like for the performance of a legitimate errand or to work for Deen- e-Islam. But to move about in mixed society and take part in all sorts of activities and professions, shoulder to shoulder with the male sex is forbidden. The wives of the Holy Prophet (saw) were particularly required to stay in their houses because of their dignity of their exalted position as mothers of the faithful. Newly-converted Muslim women usually came to see them for advices and for Tarbiyyat, guidance on important religious matters. The divine comment and instruction applies also for all Muslim women. As explained in verse 32, the Ummoul-Momenaat and all the believing Muslim women are advised to stay in their houses protecting themselves from the sex desire of other men, of any indecent behaviour on their part. Whenever they have to go out for their legitimate errand or Deen-e-Islam or visiting poor people, sick people (Khidmat-e-Khalq), Allah advise them to wear the pardah i.e. an outer loose garment covering the whole body and a Khimar (covering) for the head. The Ummoul Momenaat were instructed to wear a veil over the face, thus protecting themselves from desirous eyes. This verse advises them also to observe their daily prayers and to pay the Zakaat and especially to obey Allah and His messenger.

The words “Members of the Household” applies principally and primarily to the Holy Prophet’s wives. Allah asks them to be purified and protected. These words also apply for the Muslim families. It includes all members of a family living under one roof. Women found in the Ummat of Hazrat Mohammad (saw) should be protected and cast away from evil eyes and they should be good examples for other believing women.

34) And remember what is rehearsed in your houses of the signs of Allah and wisdom. Verily, Allah is Subtle, All Aware.

The Holy Prophet’s wives were not meant only to stay within the four walls just only to serve as models of virtue, piety and righteousness for the faithful but to teach them the principles and precepts of Islam which they had learnt directly from the Holy Prophet (saw). Whenever Allah sends His messenger, usually He manifests Himself through His prophet, His chosen one. So, definitely many signs were witnessed. The Holy Prophet’s wives were the most privileged ones to witness these signs. So they were asked to relate anecdotes to the unfortunate ones so as to reinforce their faiths in Islam. During the first call of Islam, Hazrat Khadtijah (r.a) was the first woman or first person to believe in and accept Islam and the Holy Prophet (saw), her beloved husband as the messenger of Allah. She was the one who comforted him, encouraged him and supported him in all his Dawah work. She remained faithful to Allah and His prophet (saw) while leaving all the hardships and persecutions from the enemies and their closest blood relationships till her death. Every day she used to receive people at her place for Tarbiyyat. Hazrat Aisha (r.a) and the others did also the same. It is reported that most revelations received after the death of Hazrat Khadtijah (r.a) was in Hazrat Aisha (r.a)’s apartment. That’s why most Hadiths were reported by her.

RUKU 5

35)  Surely, men who submit themselves to God and women who submit themselves to Him, and believing men and believing women, and obedient men and obedient women, and truthful men and truthful women, and men steadfast in their faith and steadfast women, and men who are humble and women who are humble and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their chastity and women who guard their chastity, and men who remember Allah much and women who remember Him. Allah has prepared for all of them forgiveness and a great reward.

A special notice from this verse. Allah is addressing to both men and women for all the qualities that a true mouslemeen should possess.

Why do as from this verse the word “women” too are mentioned?

Anecdote: - Once a Sahabi asked the Holy Prophet (saw): “why is the word man only mentioned when revelations (verses of the Holy Quran) descents? Does it really apply only man or to both?

The Holy Prophet (saw) then replied that the verses of the Holy Quran are applied to all believers, men and women. Some verses concerned men only and some are especially for women so as Allah directs him or her for their duties towards each other.

So this verse discharges the concept of lower status of women. According to the Holy Quran women stand on the same level with men and they can attain to all those spiritual heights to which men can attain and also to enjoy political, social, economical rights which men enjoy. As mentioned in the above verses, women’s best place is at home but that does not mean that she is incapable of achieving such high goals. She can work both at home or outside in an office, of course, in Pardah. She has the same right and position in society like man. She also has to work “d’arrache-pied” (very hard) for the welfare of her family (as a spouse and as a mother) and for the propagation of Islam. Education and Instruction begin at home. The first educator of a child is his mother (a woman), then according to the Arab’s custom, the child is looked after by a Nourisher (nourrice, another woman). So women have a great place in the home and society.

There is a saying in French which states:-

“Derrière le succès de l’homme, il y a une femme…”.

The Holy verses of the Quran specifies that some of the activities and duties of women that are being different. This difference in duties brought men to the conclusion that they are being superior over women. They are mistaken or misunderstood by hostile critics of Islam as implying a lower status for women. From the above verse, it’s crystal clear to understand that both have the same rights and privileges in all fields.

They both have equal rights to submit themselves totally to only one Allah, both should vow obedience to Allah and His Rasool and to each other, both should be truthful, both should be steadfast in their faith, both should be humble, give alms, fast, preserve their chastity by remaining in Zikr-é-Ilaahi. So no discrimination should be operated upon neither of them. Allah will reward all people.

 36) And it behoves not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided a matter, that they should exercise their own choice in the matter concerning them. And whoso disobeys Allah and His messenger, surely, strays away in manifest error.

This verse was revealed when Hazrat Muhammad (saw) wanted to marry Zaid, a young freed slave whom he had adopted as his son before adoption was declared unlawful in Islam, with his cousin Zainab, his aunt’s daughter, hence a full-blooded Arab lady.

Both were hesitated at the beginning to get married to each other because of their status which was a “taboo” (a sacrilege) before Islam. The Arabs were too intensely proud of themselves. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) did not press her to accept Zaid as her husband.

They were proud of their ancestry and exalted social status. They treated the lower class as “slaves” with no respect and they did whatever they feel like with them. They manipulated them at their ease, as law was in their hands. No one could touch them when they applied rudeness to the slaves. So, under the instruction of Allah, the messenger (saw) wanted to break this difference and to bring all people on the same “pedestal” (level). That is why in our Namaz, everyone should stand very closely, shoulder to shoulder, to each other, whether be he a king or a slave. No discrimination is done in the sight of Allah who created human beings with the same clay and blood. Zainab finally accepted the wish of the Holy Prophet (saw) to marry Zaid, the freed slave. This was the practical demonstration of Islam’s noble wish. The last part of the verse gives a warning for those who disobey to the commandments of Allah. When Allah has decided over a matter, no one should object to His will. Whoso disobeys Allah and His messenger, surely, strays away in manifest error.

37) And call to mind when thou didst say to him on whom Allah had bestowed favours and on whom thou also hadst bestowed favours: “Keep thy wife to thyself, and fear Allah,” and thou didst conceal in thy heart what Allah was going to bring to light, and thou didst fear the people, whereas Allah has better right that thou shouldst fear Him. Then, when Zaid had accomplished his want concerning her, We joined her in marriage to thee, so that there may be no difficulty for the believers with regard to marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when they have accomplished their wants concerning them. And Allah’s decree was bound to be fulfilled.

After both Zaid and Zainab got married, they made themselves adapted to each other to their level best. But unfortunately Zaid suffered from the feeling of an inferiority complex, due to their races and temperament. So Zaid wanted to divorce Zainab. Immediately this verse descended to warn both of them especially Zaid “to fear Allah” and to remind him of the favours He has bestowed upon him. The verse ordained him to keep his wife cherishedly otherwise Allah will reveal what is in the bosom of his heart, what is concealed. Allah will bring to light what is hidden deep into his heart. He should prefer Allah than other people. “Allah has better right than thou should fear him” - this means that he should fear Allah rather than other people around him.

But finally, Zaid did not abide by this commandment of Allah, he left Zainab. He divorced her despite he knows fully well that according to Islam divorce is very hateful in the sight of God. The Holy Prophet (saw), very grieved about the situation, urged him not to do so. This part of the verse may apply to both, Zaid and Hazrat Mohammad (saw) – why?

For Zaid:  He did not want that his separation with Zainab come to light because these words apply to his faults more than Zainab.

As however, applying to the Holy Prophet (saw): He was responsible for the arrangement of this wedding. So when there is a divorce, he naturally did not like its breach. Therefore, he feared that the breakdown of this marriage would cause some mental confusion and uneasiness among people whose faith was weak. He would blame himself of his failure of his bringing together different people of different status as one Islamic brotherhood. That was the anxiety that laid heavy on his heart. So Allah asked both of them to fear Him.

The verse continues, divulging that Allah can handle that case. Allah and His angels (We) married Zaynab with the Holy Prophet (saw), thus, breaking the misconception of marriage with one’s adopted son’s wife. Secondly, to abolish adoption as one’s real son. This is a perfect example for the believers with regard to marriage with the wives of their adopted sons when they have accomplished their wants concerning them, thus cutting at the very root of the abominable and deep, seated Arab custom that it was a “taboo” a sacrilege to marry the wife of one’s adopted son.

Thirdly, this verse shows to humanity that Allah and His angels can marry His prophet. The Nikah is performed by Allah through revelation. If this verse is present in the Holy Quran this means that it should remain alive till the day of judgement. Won’t it be effective on other prophets who will come after Hazrat Mohammad (saw)?

In the last sentence of the verse, Allah says “And Allah’s decree was bound to be fulfilled”

Definitely this is Allah’s decree which the Holy Prophet (saw) should accept whether other people liked it or not. So this situation aroused many blames and opened to many critics upon him. The Christians and Jews abused and attacked him on this purpose pretending that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) purposely broke down this marriage as he had a secret liaison with her and because of her extreme beauty. And they even blamed him to have sexual relationship with her (Anaou’zoubillah) during the absence of Zaid. They did not hesitate to intent all sorts of rubbish to pollute his life.

How can they spoil the reputation of the prophet (saw) when he himself since childhood had seen his cousin personally, as Pardah was not yet established? Secondly, it’s according to Zaid’s wish, approval that the marriage with Zaid took place.

Thirdly, before her marriage, this is on record that Zainab’s brother came to the Holy Prophet (saw) for a demand of marriage to him when she was still a virgin, and when she herself desired to get married to him. Who prevented the Holy Prophet (saw) from marrying her at that time? This shows that the Holy Prophet (saw) married his wives according to Allah’s instructions and each for a special purpose for the cause of Islam. Hazrat Muhammad (saw) did not marry his wives for sexual pleasure or to be a king of a harem - Because at that time, pre-Islamic period, the more wives one possessed and the most “barbarous” person he is among the people of a tribe, he became the chief or the king, of that tribe.

38) No blame can attach to the prophet with respect to that which Allah has made incumbent upon him, such, indeed, was the way of Allah with those who have passed before - And the command of Allah is a decree ordained.

This verse lays no blame on the Holy Prophet (saw) - The marriage took place in obedience to divine command. Allah has made this marriage incumbent to him. He has no right to refuse or argue. He is now responsible of Zainab. The verse is very strict to him that he has only to obey Allah whatever others may say about him.

39) Those who delivered the Messages of Allah and feared Him, and feared none but Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Reckoner.

Allah speaks for all His Messengers who had come before the arrival of Hazrat Muhammad (saw) and to him personally that they all feared Allah. They feared none except Allah and Allah is sufficient as a Reckoner.

This verse still exists and will exist till the Hour. So it does apply to all Messengers who will come after Hazrat Muhammad (saw) - to fear Allah and to abide by only the rules and regulations of Allah - not by the constitutions of laws of a country or a managing committee.

40) Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah, and the seal of the prophets and Allah has full knowledge of all things.

This verse is the main discussion among all members of the Muslim community. It deals with revelations and prophethood thus creating dissension and divergence of opinions.

“Mohammad is not the father of any of your men...”

At Mecca when all the male children had died in their childhood, his enemies taunted him (the Holy Prophet (saw)) with being one who had no male issue, meaning that in the absence of male heirs to succeed him, his movement i.e. Islam would sooner or later disappear or come to an end. But this does not mean that prophethood would stop here. As he is the father of the faithful, meaning the father of only the sincere ones of Islam, prophethood will continue till the day of judgement. Islam is the last religion which Allah Himself established and is a universal religion, to reunite all communities, races; colours, different ancient religions under one roof to worship only one God, Allah, therefore prophethood should continue in anywhere of the world among any people, races or colours provided that he is a follower of Hazrat Mohammad (saw), a follower of Islam, the father of the faithful. The above verse states that Mohammad (saw) is the Rassool Allah signifying that he is the father of a whole Ummah.

According to my opinion, he was made Abtar because he is not like other prophets from whom came other prophets in their descendants. (Like Abraham, his sons became prophets).

If he had “sons”, the same procedure might happen, might repeat. But Allah (swt), in His wisdom, wants to show the whole world the GREATNESS OF HAZRAT MOHAMMAD (SAW), that PROPHETHOOD CAN CONTINUE, this time not through succession of his “biological” sons but through his “spiritual” sons. That’s why he is being created sonless, to prove that prophethood must proceed its way to reunite all families under one credo, the Unicity of Allah. He is also given the title of “Khatam-an- Nabiyyin”, signifying the Seal of all Prophets (spiritual father of all the prophets). So when he is the father of all true and sincere believers and of all the prophets, how can he be said that he is Abtar (no male issue)?

Some research work on the word “Khatam” has been done and I have found out some meanings: - primarily: “ Khatam”, “Khatm” or “Khatim” means seal, stamp, a signet ring. This means that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is the sealed, stamped or impressed prophet. Secondly: He reached the end, the last “law-bearing” prophet.

Thirdly: the word means the most perfect, the best, embellishment, ornament.

So these meanings apply to the Holy Prophet (saw). He is the “Khatam-an-Nabiyin”. If we say he is issueless, this title would have no sense, it would appear to be out of tune and possess no relevance with the context of the verse which Allah (swt) has revealed.

Briefly, “Khatam-an-Nabiyin” means that:

1° Hazrat Mohammad (saw) is the Seal of all prophets, i.e. no prophet can be considered true unless he comes from the Ummah of Hazrat Mohammad (saw), and also no prophet can attain prophethood after him except by being his followers.

2° The Holy Prophet (saw) is the best, the most perfect, the noblest of all prophets and also a source of embellishment (le joyau) an ornament as he came to add value to all people especially women, orphans, the poor and the slaves.

Why was he compared to be the noblest, most perfect and the best?

Because he was the personification of the Holy Qur’an (i.e. the Holy Qur’an in flesh and bones - the living Holy Quran) and the Holy Qur’an reflects the character of the Holy Prophet (saw). It is the Holy Prophet (saw) in pages and ink, Hazrat Mohammad (saw) followed all the 700 commandments of Allah found in the Holy Qur’an.

3° The Holy Prophet (saw) is the last of the law-bearing prophets i.e. no other prophets will come after him to bring another “code of life”, that is a sacred book which will guide humanity. It’s the final book, the final guide, the last modern edition.

4° The Holy Prophet (saw) is the last prophet. Do you agree?

We do agree in the sense that he is the first and last prophet upon whom darood shareef is being sent. The one who does not send darood shareef (Swallallaho alayhe Wassalam - saw) after mentioning his name is said to be an arrogant.

He was the only prophet unto whom all qualities and attributes of prophethood are found. Excellence and perfection are the two words befitting him.

Now I am going to quote some sayings of Hazrat Mohammad (saw) and other eminent personalities who stated that PROPHETHOOD will continue after the demise of our beloved AKA SAW.

1° The Holy Prophet (saw) himself made it clear that prophethood would continue after him - He is reported to have said: “ If Ibrahim (his biological son) had remained alive, he would have been a prophet” and “Abu Bakr is best of men after me, except that a prophet should appear.”

Another saying: “I was the Khatam-an-Nabiyin before the birth of Hazrat Adam”

2° Hazrat Aisha (r.a) reported:

“Say that he (Hazrat Mohammad saw) is Khatam-an-Nabbiyin, but do not say that there will be no prophets after him.

3° The eminent Muslims the theologians, saints and savants such as Muhyiuddin Ibn Arabi, Shah Walli-Allah, Imam Ali Qari, Mujaddid Alf Thani, Mawlana Mohammad Shafi and others had accepted the interpretation of “Khatam- an-Nabbiyin” as the seal of all prophets. They stated that no prophet should come outside the Ummah of Hazrat Mohammad (saw).

4° in the commentary of the Holy Qur’an of the Shiah community, it is written that “Khatam-an-Nabbiyin” signifies that the Holy Prophet (saw) was the embellishment and ornament of all prophets. “Khatam” means “embellishment” (le joyau).

Note: The commentary of the Holy Qur’an – In Majmul Bahrain by Abul Hassan Ali Bin Muhammad (died in the year 445 AH)

5° Ibn Arabi specifies the word “Khatam” as perfection, the end, that Allah will end revelation with the Shariah of Hazrat Mohammad (saw), so it’s crystal clear that prophethood will have to continue in his Ummah till the Hour.

6° Others say that no other prophets will come after him to abrogate the commandments of the Holy Qur’an, and they should be found in his Ummah and the chiefs of all sons of Adam. This proves also that Allah can raise His prophets, His messengers, in any part of the world, in any race, or in any society provided that he comes from the Ummah of the Holy Prophet (saw), that is, Islam.

Prophets have come to maintain and revivify the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and to bring them into the light of Allah. So did Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian who made his appearance in the 14th century A.H and nowadays in this era, in the 16th century A.H, nearly 100 years after his (Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad) demise, Allah has raised another messenger, Khalifatullah, Hazrat Muhyi Uddin Amir-ul-Momeneen Munir Ahmad Azim of Mauritius, a very small island in the Indian Ocean, to continue with the objectives and goals of Hazrat Mohammad (saw). He is being gifted with this task to illuminate thousands of lost souls into the fold of Islam. Allah raised him with a Jamaat – the JAMAAT - UL - SAHIH - AL - ISLAM. Insha Allah, may Allah be his Protector, his Guardian and his Soother of all grievances, worries and sorrows as he is undergoing through many persecutions and hardships. We all know that when Allah has raised His genuine prophet, he has to bear all these trials and difficulties. AMEEN.

RUKU 6

41) and O ye who believe! Remember Allah much;

42) And glorify Him morning and evening.

After having put the Seal around the Holy Prophet (saw)’s name, this had given much confidence to the sincere believers of Islam, the Ibaadur Rahman. So Allah asks them now to remember Allah much and glorify Him morning and evening just like our beloved Aka does. Allah wants them to be very close to Him, to sleep less and to study the Holy Qur’an minutiously and to become Hufaaz. Islam is the only religion where the sacred Book is being learnt by heart. Allah knows better the reason.

He knows that the enemies would destroy the Holy Qur’an by killing all the Hufaaz, so as to extinguish the 700 commandments of Allah.

Allah asks the Ibaadur Rahman to ask for forgiveness for their sins, to make special concentration and meditation at night. Then He ordains all the Muslims to teach the Holy Qur’an to others, (a daaï-illallah), to share knowledge of Islam with the unfortunate ones.

43) He it is who sends down His blessings on you, and His angels pray for you, that He may bring you forth from all kinds of darkness into light. And He is Merciful to the believers.

From this verse, we learn that Allah made Himself responsible as the Grantor of Blessings and Favours. Rewards lie in His hands only. Moreover, all His angels send blessings and pray for the Ibaadur Rahman - why? Just because Allah and His angels want to remove people from all kinds of darkness into light. Allah loves His creatures and He is Most Merciful to them.

44) Their greeting on the day when they meet Him; will be “Peace”. And He has prepared for them an honourable reward.

“on the day” means “on the Day of Judgment” i.e. on that Special Day which Allah promised we have to account in front of Him. The Ibaadur Rahman will have a face-to-face session and for them everything will be running smoothly, they will have just to say “Salaam” and Allah has already prepared an honourable reward for them.

45) O prophet! Truly We have sent thee as a witness and a Bearer of glad tidings, and a warner.

Allah is addressing to the Prophet (saw) and to all prophets who will come after him that they are being sent as a Witness and a Bearer of glad tidings, and a Warner. These 3 functions of the prophet have their great importance.

“As a Witness” – Prophets or Messengers of Allah are people who witness revelations. They are the elected ones of Allah who will be used as recipient of revelations. Allah has to make use of man as intermediate between Him and ordinary people. He says in the Holy Quran that His messengers are people chosen among ourselves.

“As a Bearer of glad tidings” – Prophets come to give revelations to inform man what he does not know. Allah has endowed only 1% of knowledge to man – 99% is under reservation. All hidden revelations revealed before come back to light. All the commandments of the Holy Quran should be reset and revalued as people, with time, forget practically all the teachings of Allah and they lead a dog’s life. Whenever revelation descends upon the prophet and Allah manifests Himself through His chosen ones, it’s at this particular time that hypocrites are being discovered – Allah ‘fait le tri’ (remove the bad from the good ones). Just like the grocer, he places the lentils in the lentils box, ‘gros-pois’ in its right place among the gros-pois and so on. Everything has its right place. So does Allah. He places everyone in his right place. That’s why at this particular time that brothers and sisters of the same blood become hostile or enemies to each other. Some have accepted the prophet of Allah whereas others have rejected him totally and moreover they organise plots against him as they blame that he is responsible to divide the family. But a true believer knows fully well that he should give preference to Allah and His prophet first – not his blood relations.

“And a Warner” – Allah is the only One who chooses His prophet. We say that a prophet is chosen, is elected by Allah. Nobody has organised an Aamla meeting and proposed a prophet. No one could say that “o.k., nowadays we need a prophet, so let us propose Mr. X or Mr. Y or Mr. Z … to be the prophet and he has to work for us for 3 years or more – No, this does not happen when a prophet comes in this world. He is not like a President or Prime Minister who are elected by man for a fixed period. The prophet is never ruled by man. He follows only instructions of Allah through revelations. Be people happy or not, this is how a prophet functions. That’s why people who do not want to see light, they organise plots over plots to finish him as they consider him as a stubborn, illiterate, mad, crazy, a druggy man. Why is he so called? Because he does not listen or obey their rules and regulations. They say that he operates according to his “dirty mind” (Nawzobillah) only.

Why does this not happen with a president or a chairman? Because the latter is elected by man and he can be thrown out at any time as he was chosen by them.

But unfortunately, with Allah’s Rassool, this cannot be done. Allah is the Guardian and Protector. No one can touch him without His permission. No one can finish till his mission is completed in this world. So, the messenger comes also as a Warner. He warns people about the divine punishments which will be inflicted upon them if the message of Allah does not penetrate deep into their heart. He distributes the message to everyone. Hazrat Mohammad (saw) has come for humanity and so do all prophets after him.

46) And as a Summoner unto Allah by His command, and as a light-giving lamp.

The recipient of Allah is like also a “SUMMONER” unto Allah by His command - i.e. whenever he has to “tire carte rouge” (warn severely) he will have to do it without considering whether he/she be his wife, or brother or any close blood relation - He should have no family feelings. So delivering message, fall into his responsibilities. He has to reunite, to gather, to bring together, to assemble everyone under the belief of the Unicity of Allah, “Là-Ilaha illallaho Mohammadur Rassullullah”.

He is “as a light-giving lamp”. He is just like the sun which is the central point of light in this universe. So is the Holy Prophet (saw) who is the central point in the spiritual field. He is that light with all prophets have to come and revolve around him and borrow light from him. Here light means light of Allah, Unicity of Allah and obedience to all commandments of Allah.

47) And announce to the believers the glad tidings that they will have great bounty from Allah.

Allah is addressing to Hazrat Muhammad (saw) to announce to all Ibaadur Rahman that they will be rewarded with glad tidings and great bounty from Allah, Allah is Al- Wahaab.

48) And follow not the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and overlook their annoying talk and put thy trust in Allah; for Allah is sufficient as a Guardian.

Allah reminds the Holy Prophet (saw) not to follow or to listen to a single word of the disbelievers and the hypocrites- He should make his best not to abide by their foolish talks and criticisms. He had only to lay his total confidence in Allah only and to follow Allah’s instructions only. “Alaysallallaho be kaafi abdahou”. Allah is sufficient as a Guardian for him and to all the prophets after him.

49) O ye who believe! When you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, then you have no right to reckon the period of waiting with regard to them. So make some provision for them and send them away in a handsome manner.

Allah is addressing to all men believers that if ever marriage with believing women had taken place in their life and they want to divorce them before touching them, Allah asks to send them away in a handsome manner meaning that no reproach or disgrace should be thrown upon them and there is no need to retain them. After divorce she is free to act as she likes. The man should not interfere or tries to have control over her. It is very common, when divorce is pronounced, the woman has a waiting period before she leaves the husband’s house but in this case (untouched woman), the husband should send her away without any delay and she should ordinarily be paid more than the proposed dowry. The husband should make some provision for her before sending her away.

50) O prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives whom thou has paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesses from among those whom Allah has given thee as gains of war, and the daughters of thy paternal uncle and the daughters of thy paternal aunts, and the daughters of thy maternal uncle, and the daughters of thy maternal aunts who have emigrated with thee and any other believing woman if she offers herself for marriage to the Prophet provided the Prophet desires to marry her; this provision is only for thee, and not for other believers - We have already made known what We have enjoined on them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess - in order that there may be no difficulty for thee in explaining the Law to them. And Allah is Most-Forgiving, Merciful.

This verse is revealed for the Holy Prophet (saw). Allah has made lawful to him all his wives whom he has paid their dowries, and whom he has been gifted as gains of war. Most of his wives were divorced women and widowed women except Aisha who was a virgin. Later, the reason was known why Allah (swt) made the connection of Aisha to the Holy Prophet (saw). Allah gives permission to what relationship one has to get married. This applies also to all believing men; a general rule. Marriage can be contracted with cousins (daughters of chacha and mamou), daughters of chachi and mami who have emigrated with the Holy prophet (saw) and any other believing women (not blood related) and any other believing woman who offers herself in marriage provided the Holy Prophet (saw) desired to marry her. This case is referred to Hazrat Maymunah who offered herself in marriage to the Holy prophet (saw).

The clause: “this provision is made for thee, and not for other believers” applies only for the Holy Prophet (saw) as Allah has already limited the number of wives to four (in chapter 4:4). As Hazrat Mohammad (saw) had more than four wives, so Allah ordained him to retain all his wives, not to send them away. This is a special privilege for the Holy Prophet (saw) and was due to the special nature of his duties as a divine prophet. And also they were not ordinary women, they were given the title of “Ummoul Momeneen” mothers of the faithful, whose duties were to promote piety, righteousness among the believers and to support the prophet of Allah (saw).

The other clause: “we have already made known what we have enjoined on them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess” refers when the number of wives has been limited to four at the most at a time for a Muslim.

Regarding the Holy Prophet (saw), Allah authorized him to keep all his wives because of their very high spiritual status and other moral considerations as stated above.

“in order that there may be no difficulty for thee in explaining the law.”

Allah revealed this part so as to lessen the burden of his beloved prophet (saw) when concerning about marriage. As marriage with numerous wives was the customs of the Arabs and Hazrat Mohammad (saw) would have much difficulties to limit them so Allah Himself revealed this verse for the believing man, otherwise, they also would taunt him about his several wives he possessed.

“And Allah is Most forgiving, Merciful” - what has happened before the verse has been revealed? Allah forgave them, but now on, all believing men should limit them to the number prescribed.

To be noted:- the Holy Prophet’s (saw) marriages were contracted under Allah’s instructions for noble considerations, to reunite all the tribes together  and to promote peace, harmony, education and mostly to change them from barbarism to a civilized devoted community.

51) Thou mayest put aside any of them that thou pleasest, and keep with thyself whom thou pleasest; and if thou desirest to take back any of those whom thou hast put aside, there is no blame on thee. That is more likely that their eyes may be cooled, and that they may all be pleased with that which thou hast given them. And Allah knows what is in your hearts; and Allah is All-Knowing, Forbearing.

This verse struck both - the Ummoul muminaat and the Holy Prophet (saw). In verse 29-30, Allah asked him to liberate those who wanted a life of comfort and luxuries but the choice was the companionship of the Holy Prophet (saw) even in the utmost austere hardship. All his wives without exception lost no time in indicating their preference. Now in this verse, Allah permitted Hazrat Muhammad (saw) to put aside any of them he felt like if he desires to take them back, there will be no blame upon him - the Holy Prophet (saw), on his part, was equally considerate just like the Ummoul muminaat in verse 29-30. So he decided to retain all of them. This decision greatly pleased them. Allah knows the Hearts of his wives as He is the All-Knowing, the Forbearing.

52) It is not allowed to thee to marry women after that, nor to change them for other wives even, though their goodness please thee, except that thy right hand possesses. And Allah is Watchful over all things.

As started in the introduction, this verse applies to the Holy Prophet (saw) when his wives have preferred the rigour and austerity of the Holy Prophet’s domestic life to worldly comforts. Allah appreciated their sacrifice and now this verse which is revealed in 7 A.H forbade him to marry any more wife or to divorce any of his existing wives or to marry any one of his slaves. Another reason for not divorcing them is because they have already acquired the title of, “MOTHER OF THE FAITHFUL”. If, they divorced, they could marry other believing men which are their spiritual sons. Allah is Watchful over all things. Allah protects Islam from highly criticisms.

RUKU 7

53) O ye who believe! Enter not the houses of the prophet unless leave is granted to you for a meal, not waiting till it is cooked. But enter when you are invited, and when you have had your meal, disperse, without seeking to engage in talk. That causes inconvenience to the prophet, and he feels shy of asking you to leave, but Allah is not shy of saying what is true. And when you ask them - the wives of the prophet – for anything, ask them from behind a curtain. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it behoves you not to cause inconvenience to the Messenger of Allah, nor that you should ever marry his wives after him. That indeed, is a monstrous thing in the sight of Allah.

This is a very clear verse, which needs no further explanation. It’s a commandment from Allah. At the time of the Holy Prophet (saw), usually when people used to go to see him, they waited for a copious meal. And they were never in a hurry to leave his residence. So Hazrat Mohammad (saw) felt very uncomfortable and also because of all his wives who lived together in the same yard. Seeing his beloved prophet in such a dilemma, Allah (swt) immediately revealed this verse which fortunately the Muslim around him understood and obeyed. Allah ordained them not to enter the home of the prophet unless they are invited. And not to wait for the preparation of the meal, that is, they should come at the proper time so as not to embarrass the hosts. He should be punctual. It is as bad to be before time as to be behind time. Then Allah says that when the meal is over, do not delay, “pas faire l’heure et reste jusqua fort tard” (do not linger and stay till late in the night). After the meal one should depart, not wasting time in idle talk. That causes inconvenience to the prophet of Allah and to the whole family, like any other man, he feels shy to ask somebody to leave, but Allah is not shy of saying what is true. Allah says that when one has to ask for something to the wives of the prophet, he should do so behind a curtain (in pardah). So Allah establishes the law of pardah to discourage too much familiarity between men and women. Allah says that is purer for your hearts and their hearts. Meaning nothing can happen secretly.  The commandment becomes severer. Allah addresses to the believers not to annoy the prophet of Allah, not to disturb him nor lose his precious time, then after his demise, no one has the right to marry the Ummoul- momenaat. That will be a monstrous sin in the sight of Allah. Why? How can they marry their “spiritual sons” being their “mothers of the faithful” especially when Allah has raised them with spiritual dignity?

According to this verse, the Ummoul momenaat are being condemned to get married after the death of the prophet. They should spend their lifetime in promoting righteousness, piety, Tarbiyyat, handling over the affairs of the community in order to maintain its smooth running to bring people towards the Unicity of Allah.

54) Whether you disclose a thing or conceal it, Allah knows all things well.

This verse is addressed to all human beings, be he a believer or a disbeliever or a hypocrite. What is in the heart, Allah knows its innermost secret. Allah is the All-Knowing. Some people do good work just to make a show of it - to have a prestige, honour and to be famous on all tongues. He likes to be flattered. Allah does not like these types of persons. When one should undertake a work, he should only fear Allah and perform his task to please Allah only - He makes self- assessment, whether this action satisfies Allah or not according to the rules of the Holy Qur’an. This is called Taqwa (fear of Allah).

Many people fear human beings like themselves. They would carry out some work just to please the boss despite being against the rules of Allah. If the boss is satisfied that means he is satisfied also.

Allah knows the heart of a hypocrite. A person may live with another person for years but he will never know whether the person is sincere or a hypocrite. It’s when there is a Divine Manifestation that Allah will unveil what is in his heart - whether he deserves to remain with his/her spouse - or any relation. All these happen with the arrival of a messenger elected by Allah - what we call a Muhyi-ud-din, a Mujjaddid or a Nabi or whatever a name which Allah (swt) reveals to him. So from this verse, we learn that nothing can be hidden from Him, the Mighty, the Most Powerful, and the All-Knowing.

55) There is no blame on them in this respect with regard to their fathers or their sons or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers or the sons of their sisters, or their women folk or those whom their right hands possess. And fear Allah, O wives of the prophet. Verily, Allah is Witness over all things.

Meeting strangers or people who are not “mahraam” are forbidden to the Ummoul muminaat, the wives of the Holy Prophet (saw). Allah gives them permission to only to their parents (fathers), their sons, their brothers (blood relations), their nephews, or their women folk (ladies friends) or their slaves whom they cannot marry. They can interact with those people mentioned above freely without covering their faces or their Jilbaabs but they should be dressed properly with much respect, and even to talk with them lovingly with kind words. Allah watches over them.

56) Allah sends down His blessings on the prophet and His angels pray for him. O ye who believe, you too should invoke His blessings on him and salute him with the salutation of peace.

This verse demonstrates the kindness of Allah over the Holy Prophet (saw). Allah sends down His special blessings and special favours upon him. Allah is addressing to all people who found themselves in the Ummah of Hazrat Muhammad (saw), that is, Islam, we also have to send blessings and peace when we hear or utter his name. And salute him with these words:-

“Swallallaho alayhi Wassalam” (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He is the only prophet who scored this distinction. No prophet before his arrival or after his coming will be graced with this darood. He is the “seal of all prophets”. The one who remains silent or tries to defame and to slander him, or denies his name and does not utter the salutation is considered to be an arrogant in the sight of Allah and this punishment will be very hectic.

57) Verily, those who malign Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them an abasing punishment.

Allah says to those who want to put obstacles in the way of the cause of truth and by “maligning” His messenger i.e. seeking to transgress the laws of Allah and to defame him, Hazrat Muhammad (saw), Allah has cursed them in this world and in the Hereafter and has prepared for them an abasing punishment- “une punition sans merci”.

58) And those, who malign believing men and believing women for what they have not earned, shall bear the guilt of a calumny and a manifest sin.

And Allah protects also the people in Hazrat Muhammad (saw)’s Ummat, the believing men and women. Those who try to malign them, or to deviate them from the right path or to attack them, defame them and slander them, to persecute them, to make ghibat or badzani to them or to insult them secretly or publicly - Allah warms them that they shall bear the guilt of a calumny and a manifest sin. “Calumny”: Allah uses this word in this verse as it has very strong meaning and very hateful in the sight of Allah. Calumny is the expression of damaging or having malicious opinions upon someone, backbiting, back stabbing just like eating the dead flesh of your brother, a character of assassination and defamation.

RUKU 8

59) O prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters, and the women of the believers, that they should pull down upon them of their outer cloaks from their heads over their faces. That is more likely that they may thus recognised and not molested. And Allah is Most-Forgiving, Merciful.

Allah ordains ‘Pardah’, that is the whole covering of the body with a lose garment and a ‘khimar’ to cover the head and the bosoms to the wives of the Holy Prophet (saw), and his daughters and the believing women. The verse includes the covering of the face. The Islamic Pardah serves as a double purpose. It preserves the privacy and a dignified behaviour. Women are not allowed to mix with the opposite sex. They are also expected to observe certain rules regarding dress when going out of their houses. The wearing of an outer garment is intended to save a Muslim woman from desirous man - this applies especially for women who go about business or any outdoor work. Pardah will protect her from being molested or being stared at or in any other way inconvenient for her by persons of questionable character or having a disease in their heart. All believing women have to restrain their looks when meeting the opposite sex. The Holy Qur’an permits women to go out of their homes when necessary but they are not condemned within the four walls. Pardah should be maintained even in the house when near male relatives frequently come and go. Here ‘Pardah’ means “decent dressing”. Women are advised to take an additional precaution to their Zinah (beauty), dress and ornaments and other embellishment which should not be displayed publicly. The Pardah of a woman will also vary according to the customs, habits, social status, family traditions of various classes of the Muslim community but the most important is that IT SHOULD BE OBSERVED in whatever Islamic country she is.

60) If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease and those who cause agitation in the City by spreading false rumours, desist not, We shall, surely, urge thee on against them; then they will not dwell therein as thy neighbours save for a little while.

Why wearing the Pardah?

Allah gives the causes through this verse:-

If a hypocrite or other hostile enemies want to malign Islam, putting all sorts of obstacles, the main weapon they use is to blaspheme or molest a lady. This would cause agitation in the city by spreading false rumours. This is the easiest and the cheapest way of calumniating in using ladies; way of dressing, walking and in her every behaviour. So Allah promised Islam that nobody would have been victorious over it. The main solution is to protect the ladies and young girls. Allah is Ever-Watchful over His dearest servants.

61) They are accursed. Wherever they are found they will be seized, and cut into pieces.

“They are accursed”:-

The ill-fated Jewish people have been ignored and humiliated by Allah throughout ages. Allah says:

“Wherever they are found they will be seized, and cut into pieces”.

The Jews were people whom Allah loved the most. He continued to send messengers to warn them, to wash away their sins and to guide them in the right way, but unfortunately most of them tortured the prophets of Allah. They even crucified them as in the case of Jesus. They did not even spare Hazrat Mohammad (saw), the last-law giving prophet.

62) Such has been the way of Allah with those who passed away before, and never thou wilt find a change in the way of Allah.

As explained above, this accursed was due to the extreme atrocities they inflicted on the messengers before the arrival of our beloved prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (saw), and “never thou wilt find a change in the way of Allah” - This sentence is a very strict law. Allah will never change His way of doing things. Therefore severe punishment is guaranteed throughout ages for the Jews and any people who behave like the Jews.

63) People ask thee concerning the Hour. Say, “The knowledge of it is with Allah alone.” And what will make thee know that the Hour may be nigh?

People asked Hazrat Muhammad (saw) concerning the Day of Judgement (the Hour). Allah asked him to answer them that only Allah knows when will be the Day of Judgement. And inform them that the Hour is very near.

Nowadays, with technology, birth can be predicted - the day, date and even the time - when the baby will come to see the day? But as for death, Allah has not given to anyone, or has given rise to any technology or sophisticated machine to predicate the day, date, time of his death. We may find somebody in the agony of death (Sakraat), we can even arrange for his burial place, but what happen, Allah can make this person stay in this state for years or get him better and he can live a longer life beyond expectation. Why is it so? Because, it would be too great and easy to get Allah and His eternal paradise - If death is known, everybody would at first lead a worldly life, i.e. forgetting his Creator completely then when the day comes nearer, it’s at that particular time that he would realise that he has to enter paradise now - so he will start reading the Holy Qur’an, stand in lengthy prayers, pay the Zakaat or any funds or they would even spend for Hajj so as to eradicate all their sins they were permitted to do. But when death is unknown, we all have to stick to our prayers every day, in remembering Allah every fraction of a second to bear all the trials of Allah. Allah loves these kinds of persons, the “Ibaadur Rahman”.

64) Allah has, surely, cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a blazing fire,

Allah guaranteed the disbelievers, those who have turned their backs to the message of Allah and His messenger, a severe punishment and a blazing fire.

 65) Wherein they will abide for ever. They will find therein no friend, nor helper.

There, in Hell, there will be no protection from anybody - whatever close he\she may be. No one can defend his case - No lawyers or judges, no lovers, no parents, brothers and sisters. One has to account in front of Allah alone.

66) On the day when their faces are turned over into fire, they will say, “O, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the messenger!”

When they will be faced alone with Allah they won’t know what to do - But unfortunately, it will be too late - Allah says that they will prefer to go back to this world and ready to start life afresh, obeying all the 700 commandments of Allah obeying His messenger.

67) And they will say, “Our lord, we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones and they led us astray from the way,

And moreover, they will supplicate Allah to return them back to the world - they will ask for more forgiveness and at that time they will cry out: “O Allah! We had obeyed only to our Chief, Amir or Khalifa who had themselves turned deaf ears to the messages of Allah, turned down revelations after having well understood that revelations will continue to descend upon prophets till the Day of Judgement.”    It will be very easy to shift the blame of your own evil deeds on them. Allah has given all without exception guidance from the Holy Qur’an but they do not make good use of it. They spend most of their precious time in business, collecting money and wealth or their pastime.

Definitely, when a messenger comes from Allah, he is the one whom we have to obey first because Allah is manifesting Himself through him. He is elected by Allah and not by man. This does not happen every year or month or …

So lucky to those who are close to Allah’s prophet and bad luck to those who are in his ark but turned their backs to him and bad luck to those who do not want to draw near to him to know the truth.

68) “Our lord, give them double punishment and curse them with a mighty curse.”

Allah will inflict them (those who believed then turned their backs from the manifestation of Allah) a double punishment as they have cursed Allah’s prophet and created disorders among the believers. And Allah, at His turn now, will curse them with a Mighty curse!

RUKU 9

69) O ye who believe! Be not like those who maligned Moses, but Allah cleared him of what they said about him. And he had a great position in the sight of Allah.

Allah is addressing to the believers that they should not resemble like people around Moses who were always hurting, maligning or causing him much trouble. Moses was one of the prophets of Allah targeted with serious calumnies. Some of which were:

1) A charge of illicit connection with a woman induced by Korah.

2) He was accused of murdering Aaron (Haroon) as the latter became popular among the Israelites.

3) He was a victim of leprosy and syphilis.

4) Samiri charged him with idolatry which was contrary.

5) His own sister brought some shameless accusations against him.

So Allah asked the believers who have accepted the manifestation of Allah through his beloved prophet (saw) not to become like them - not to throw mud on him.

Just like Allah has washed away all the blames and calumnies of Prophet Moses, so will he do with “the seal of all prophets” (saw). Prophet Moses had a great, high place and high status in the sight of Allah.

70) O ye who believe! Fear Allah and say the straight forward word.

Allah instructed severely the Mouslemeen to speak correctly; to speak straightforward, to be frank and nothing hidden in the heart. Hypocrisy should disappear from the heart – It’s better to be frank and straightforward rather than to be smiling and lenient but then at the back, calumniating, and backbiting our brothers and sisters. So Allah says to fear Him as He is the Knower of all secrets.

71) He will set right your actions for you and forgive you your sins. And whoso who obeys Allah and His messenger shall, surely, attain a supreme triumph.

Allah promises the truthful and the most trustworthy people that He will forgive them for all their misdeeds and sins if ever they commit one, willing or unwilling. And Allah will reward them if they obey Allah and His Messenger. “Truth always triumphs over lies.”

72) Verily, We offered the trust of the divine law to the heavens and the earth and the mountain, but they refuse to bear it and were afraid of it. But man bore it. Indeed, he is capable of being unjust to, and neglectful of, himself.

Addressing to humanity, man has been gifted with great intellectual capacities and powers to serve others in the most civilized way and to manifest in his person the Divine attributes and to become a devotee of His Creator. The Divine Law has been offered to to the heavens and the earth and the mountains but they cannot bear this burden and they were afraid of it. But man bore it. He accepts his responsibilities because he alone could discharge it. He is capable of being unjust to himself and neglectful in the sense that he could bear any hardship and undergo any sacrifice for the sake of his creator. Such man is like our Aka Hazrat Muhammad (saw), the perfect man. Ha was capable to bear the weight of revelations for a period of 23 years. He bore his responsibilities to deliver the message of the Tawheed to all four corners of the world. So did and do all his spiritual sons. This trust of Divine Law was imposed upon man and other heavenly and terrestrial creatures. The whole nature and the angels carried out their duties loyally and faithfully according to their types of duties assigned by the Creator. But man has even endowed with special wits to carry out his duties towards his Creator. In other words, man is superior to the angels and to all living creatures in this universe, of course, when he applies Divine Laws. When violating them, he is being looked down as the lowest animal in this universe.

73) The consequence is that Allah will punish hypocritical men and hypocritical women, and idolatrous men and the idolatrous women; and Allah turns in mercy to believing men and Allah is Most-Forgiving, Merciful.

The last verse of this surah is a warning to humanity (both men and women) - How will be His punishment towards the hypocritical men and women, the idolatrous men and women. Allah shows His anger and hate for hypocrites and idolatrous people. They are the worst creatures that could exist in this universe.

After warning the mischievous and the devils, Allah shows His gratitude and Mercy towards the trustful and trustworthy men and women, gratifying them their reward after having acted upon the DIVINE LAWS and holding responsibilities till their last breath. Allah is Most-Forgiving and Most-Merciful. AMEEN
