(Summary of Friday Sermon)

After having greeted all his followers (and all Muslims) round the world – mentioning Reunion Island and the other nearby islands, India, Kerala, Trinidad and Tobago etc. – with the Salutations of Peace, Hazrat Muhyi-ud-Din (atba) read the Tashahhud, Taouz and Surah Al Fatiha and then said:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا النَّاسُ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡکُمۡ  مَّوۡعِظَۃٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّکُمۡ وَ شِفَآءٌ لِّمَا فِی الصُّدُوۡرِ ۬ۙ وَ ہُدًی  وَّ رَحۡمَۃٌ   لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِیۡنَ ۝

“Oh mankind! There has come unto you an exhortation from your Lord, a balm for that which is in the breasts, a guidance and a mercy for believers.” (10: 58).

Alhamdulillah, Summa Alhamdulillah, My Rab (Lord, Allah) has given me this opportunity in my Friday Sermon of today to explain the remedies for diseases of the heart (7th Part: “The Heart”). Note that cure and remedies of the diseased hearts lie only in obedience to the Quran and in pure and perfect Iman (faith); you can analyse and try to understand that Allah the Exalted says in the verse of Chapter Yunus which I have recited in the beginning of my sermon after Surah Al-Fatiha. The Quran is a cure for that ignorance of the heart. Ignorance is a much more fatal disease to the heart in comparison to sicknesses of the body. Diseases of the heart are bad character, evil beliefs, destructive and ignorant customs, etc. The Quran is a salutary healer of all these diseases, for it embraces, advices, admonishes, gives warnings, encouragement, etc.

Thus, the cure and healer for the disease of the heart is the Quran. Hypocrisy inevitably is a disease of the heart. Among the diseases of the heart is that we keep in the heart something and express with our tongues something else. This is, in reality, the quality of the Munafiqeen (hypocrites). They keep in their hearts something and express with their tongues something else.

Allah the Exalted says regarding them:

“They utter with their mouths a thing which is not in their hearts.” (3: 168).

Allah the Exalted consoles Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) in the following words:

“Oh Messenger! Let not them grieve you those who vie one with another in the race to disbelief, of such as say with their mouths: “We believe,” but their hearts believe not…” (5: 42).

On another occasion Allah says regarding the Munafiqeen (hypocrites). They satisfy you with their mouth which their hearts refuse and most of them are wrongdoers.

Allah the Exalted also says:

“The hypocrites fear lest a Surah should be revealed concerning them, proclaiming what is in their hearts.” (9: 64).

“And of them is he who made a covenant with Allah (saying): If He gives us of His bounty we will give alms and become of the righteous. Yet when He gave them of His bounty, they hoarded it and turned away, averse; So He hath made the consequence (to be) hypocrisy in their hearts until the day when they shall meet Him, because they broke their word to Allah that they promised Him, and because they lied.” (9: 75-77).

Six things come upon the heart: life, death, health, illness, sleep and awakeness.

1. Guidance is the life of the heart.

2. Deviation is the death of the heart.

3. Cleanliness is the health of the heart.

4. Reliance on Ghairullah (those besides Allah) is the illness of the heart.

5. Remembrance of Allah (Zikrullah) is awakeness of the heart.

6. Negligence of that remembrance is the sleep of the heart.

Five things are the Medicine and Balm of the heart: Reciting the Quran with concentration; Keeping the stomach empty; Staying awake at night for Ibadah (worship of Allah); Crying and supplicating Allah at the time of Sehri and Iftaar; and making the pious your company.

I end my Friday Sermon here and pray: “Oh Allah! Save our hearts from hypocrisy.” Ameen.

Insha-Allah, may Allah the Exalted give me the Tawfiq to continue the same subject in my sermon next Friday. Ameen.
