(29 Jamadal Awwal 1431 Hijri)

(Summary of Friday Sermon – done in Grande Rivière, Port-Louis )

After having greeted everybody with the Salutations of Peace, the Khalifatullah read the Tashahhud, Taouz and Surah Al Fatiha and then he said:

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ

Kullu Nafsin Zaikatul Maut Summa ilayna turja-uun

Every soul shall taste death, and to us you shall be returned. (Chapter 29 Verse 58)

Today, our brother and my uncle (my aunt’s husband)’s funeral will be held after the Sermon. My uncle Mahmood Kurrimbaccus aged 77 years old died yesterday at 16hr00 at his residence in Port-Louis. For the last six months, a deep affection linked us, our family, our Jamaat and himself and my aunt where he witnessed countless signs and divine manifestations beginning with his own health. With his request of lots of prayers and his not rejecting the miracle of prayer, Allah, our beloved Lord extended his life for some more days and yesterday after years and months of suffering, he left us for the next abode.

His last days were filled with his requests for this humble one’s presence near him and to look after him till his last moments. By the grace of Allah, this was what happened with him dying after being reassured that this humble one was looking after him. Before I left him the same day he died, he took my hands and tried to tell me an important thing, but alas he was too weak to speak and I to understand what he meant; but he confided me important matters so that justice be meted out once he leaves this world. It was a few minutes later after I left him for some urgent work that I received the news of his death. His underwent a change of hearts some months back when he was willing to come and stay over at my place and he maximised his time with us, getting to profit from the Daras Quran. He even congratulated our efforts to preach Islam and he said that rare it was that such programs are organised and the praise of Allah is made in such love and sincerity. His stay with us was filled with much love with him giving us his blessings and prayers – he learned a lot from us despite his weakness and the fact that he was terminally ill. Alhamdulillah. May Allah give him a high and dignify place in the Jannat-ul-Firdous.

Now, this make us reflect upon death and how death will touch each one of us. We have seen the death of our own brother, but will we get to see our own death? How we will die and in which condition? If somebody dies and nobody helps him or her by contributing in his funeral rites, these people will not lead a peaceful life for they have forgotten that one day they also will leave this world. Thus, we must pray that Allah give us a blessed death with people to tender to us, to our body, cleansing it and preparing it to be buried. When a person dies, he leaves everything he possesses behind; all these things become meaningless. What he takes with him is only his faith and deeds. The one who inherit from him also will die when his time on earth is up, so everything that there is on this earth belong only to Allah; nobody can truly say that such and such portion of land belongs to him or not.

On the Day of Judgement one’s wealth, children and wives will not be the priority of any man. He shall be worried for his own condition. Quran even mentions the fact that if it is a bad man, he shall tell Allah, as if bribing Allah saying that he gives Him all his wealth, children and wives, but please to spare him from punishment, from the fire. It is only on earth that one has family-feelings, considerations for one another. When one gets a child, he will do everything to provide for the needs of his child or children, and if this child is in danger, he will go to his rescue. All these concern only the temporal world. On the Day of Judgement, each soul will look straight before him, caring for his own deeds, worrying about his future condition.

When making this sermon, the wind and the trees also are praising to Allah, for they also have life, but they are such creatures which cannot talk and sinless. But nevertheless, all the trees and all living creatures of Allah shall taste death…

In short, Mahmood Kurrimbaccus behaviour changed for the best in his last days when he came to know us, my family and myself profoundly, and when he came to know about my mission as the Messenger of Allah, he did not reject it and boycott me or my family. The door of his house and heart was always open for us and ours too. A special bond linked us and he went away from this world after much pain due to his illness, but never did he say something against the divine manifestation or against this humble one. On the contrary, the only name of a human he called and was restless to see was this humble self and Allah blessed him so much and I also when I have had the fortune of caring for him in his last days till his last moment. Alhamdulillah. May Allah reward him for his exceptional behaviour, and acceptation of the divine signs and manifestations, for his courage, honesty, friendship and sincerity he maintained with the people who were close to him and who knew him as a good man, he was also a good husband for both of his wives and a good father who provided everything, all the necessity to all his children. May Allah bless him always and give him a good place in His Paradise, satisfied with him and his deeds on earth, and also forgive him for his weaknesses as a human (for nobody is perfect). Insha-Allah. Ameen.

(After the Friday Sermon, the Khalifatullah led our brother Mamood Kurrimbaccus’s funeral prayers)
