EID MUBARAK

(Summary of Eid Sermon)

After having greeted everybody with the Salutations of Peace and Eid Mubarak, the Khalifatullah read the Tashahhud, Taouz and Surah Al Fatiha and then he said:

Eid is here, meaning that Ramadan has come to an end. The month of Ramadan was an opportunity for all Muslims to live life according to the precepts of their religion, precepts that encourage more piety and more generosity. We believe in one God, the Almighty, Creator of the heavens and earth, of the visible and invisible world. It is the affirmation of faith of Islam as the universal religion. But it is much more than an assertion, because God is altogether, the Light that illuminates our lives, the Cause and the Aim of our efforts and our struggles. Without Him we are nothing. In affirming our faith in one God and Creator, we thereby acknowledge that He has placed His law in our hearts to be the source of our personal dignity, our rights and our duties, such rights and duties which we have in common with all members of the human family.

Today is Eid-ul-Fitr. Together, let’s ponder a bit about Ramadan, what lessons have we learned from it?

According to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Allah said: “Fasting is for Me.” (Bukhari)

What have you done with His fast? Have you lived it intensely, superficially or carelessly? Why, O you who are perfectly healthy, have you not fasted? Is Eid for you? Will you have the audacity today to dress the Islamic way for the eyes of the world and have fun without any embarrassment? And O you who have fasted, who have prayed and have well behaved, who have been able to control your instincts, what has changed in you? Why have you fasted if you have remained basically the same, that is to say, spiteful, vindictive, quarrelsome, and never ready to forgive, erase, and forget?

Why fast when you did not purify heart, when you still have hatred for your brothers? What month of purification has it been for you? What have you done for your soul?

“Successful is one who redeems it. Failing is one who neglects it.” (Ash-Shams 91:10-11)

Ramadan is also a time to resource oneself, to find oneself, refocus, renew, remodel.

Have the courage to change.
resort to pardon, advocate tolerance (Al-Araf 7: 200)

“Improve your relationship between you” (Al-Anfal 8: 2)

Reconcile with your brothers, your sisters, your wives, etc. – Explain yourself, reform yourselves because
“reconciliation is much better.” (An-Nisa 4: 129)

What use is it to spiritualize ourselves if we disregard the Quranic and prophetic precepts? Has the month of Ramadan not been to you any lesson? The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “It is forbidden to cast a malicious glance at one’s Muslim brother.” (Ahmad and Abu Da’ud)

As for you, you frown! Remove the hatred and calumnies endorsed on your Muslim brother. Allah exhorts: “Treat with kindness your parents, your relatives, the orphans, the poor, your neighbours ...” (An-Nisa 4:37)

You continue to hurt your parents and bring the curse of the neighbours. Has the month of Ramadan not taught you any humility? Why this ostentation, this arrogance? “God loveth not the arrogant, infatuated with his own person.” (Luqman 31:19)

When will you meditate on it? You are celebrating Eid. You eat, you drink, and you spend. Have you thought about these men, women and children on this great day, being victims of atrocious cruelties, massacres?

What thoughts do you have for the orphans? The poor? Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) invoked Allah as such: “God, grant me a life of poverty. Enable me to leave this world as a poor (person). Join me on the Day of Resurrection to the party of the poor.” (Ibn Majah and Hakim)

And we want to be rich!

May this Eid be an opportunity to strengthen ties between all Muslim brothers, those of the various components of our nation but also to bring us closer to our ideals of unity and justice. Insha-Allah!
Ameen. I wish you all an Eid Mubarak.
